Algae cultures are sensitive to pH (acid/alkaline) and will grow within certain pH ranges. We recommend that you have a pH meter handy for confirming pH.
This economical pH meter is easy-to-use for quick and reliable pH measurements.
Includes: meter complete with protective cap, calibration screwdriver, batteries, instructions, and powdered calibration standards.
|Range:||0.0 - 14.0 pH|
|Accuracy:||± 0.1 pH|
1 Point (7.0 pH)
|Probe:||Glass (Not replacable)|
|Environment:||32° - 122°F / 0° - 50°C; max RH 95%|
|Battery Life:||700 hours of use|
|Battery Type:||3 x 1.5V alkaline (Included)|
Important: Like all economy pH testers, our basic meter uses a glass electrode sensor, which is unprotected and susceptible to breakage. This sensor must be handled with extreme care and stored in a buffer solution. If the sensor is broken it cannot be replaced. If the sensor is allowed to dry out it may affect the accuracy of the meter readings.

$ 15.95 $ 32.99Algae Culture Kit for Microalgae. We have perfected the method and supplies for anyone to grow an ecologically or industrially important strain of algae. It contains everything you need to grow a laboratory-grade culture at home or at your desk! It includes the following: (1) Instructions: information about the strain of algae, illustrated growing protocol, culture care lessons, lifecycle background of batch-culture cycles. (2) Culture flask: tissue culture flask (50 ml volume) with a breathable cap. (3) Culture inoculum: 1ml in a dense culture in a 1.5ml micro-centrifuge tube. (4) Nutrient Fertilizer: our nutrients are a modification of the media formula called f/2 (Guillard and Ryther 1962, Guillard 1975). It uses NaNO3 (sodium nitrate) and NaPO4 (sodium phosphate) as the nitrogen and phosphorus sources. (5) Culturing Salts: Add salts to a 500ml bottle of drinking water (water not included in the kit). Different strains of algae have a preference for their water quality. We have perfected the recipe and include a small bag of salt to make 500ml (1/2 liter) of media. The salts provide a needed carbon source as well as slow the growth of competitive algae strains (weeds). Great for science fair projects! View full product details
$ 3.50 $ 15.00Our spirulina salts are a modification of the media from Aiba, S. & Ogawa, T. (1977) and Schlösser 1994. Using this media you can achieve good rates and maintain pH control. View full product details
Spirulina holds a sweet spot in the heart of our company's founder. It was the first strain he worked with commercially. He almost got it tattooed on his back.
This is a clean culture of Arthrospira platensis. It is grown in an alkali water (not seawater or freshwater) using spirulina nutrient media.
Should I order a the CULTURE or the CULTURING KIT?
The culture is just that- algae culture in a bottle.
The culturing kit is (1) algae culture, (2) algae culturing salts, (3) algae culturing nutrients.
The KIT will get you to a total volume that is much greater than the initial volume of the culture.
