Introduction to algae culture
Algae is a loose definition that encompasses organisms from the phylums of Protista, Eubacteria, and Archaebacteria. To grow algae you will need:
- A substrate to grow (such as water, in a container)
- An energy source (such as a light, check out our info on light)
- A supply of nutrients (such as nitrogen and phosphorus) Nutrient recipes are linked here.
- A way to mix the culture (air bubbles, or a by shaking the culture yourself)
- Algae cells to culture
