Introductory Ecology and Environmental Science
Population, energy and pollution labs built on one living system.
Algae and brine shrimp give students a small ecosystem they can count, measure and disturb. The same organisms carry through population growth, energy flow, nutrient pollution and toxicology, so students build skill across the term.

Where it fits
How our labs fit this course
Population and community ecology
Where it fits: the population growth and trophic levels part of the course.
What the lab does: students fit a logistic curve and estimate transfer efficiency from their own data.
Human impact
Where it fits: the pollution and water quality part of the course.
What the lab does: students trigger an algae bloom with nutrients and run a dose response test on brine shrimp.
Data and graphing
Where it fits: any point where students need practice with real, messy data.
What the lab does: every lab ends in a graph students make and defend.
