Elementary Earth and Space Science
Plant + Algae = Total Photosynthesis for the Earth
Elementary Earth and space science asks how Earth's systems interact, and what people do to them. Algae is where the biosphere meets the hydrosphere and the atmosphere, and about half of all the photosynthesis on Earth happens in water rather than on land. Almost no elementary curriculum says that out loud, and a green bag on a windowsill is the argument for it. The human impact half is taught with fluorescent microplastic particles that children watch move out of the water and into a living animal, which is a different experience from being told it happens.
