High School, grades 9 to 12
Marine Science
Grow the base of the ocean food web in your classroom.
Students grow marine algae and brine shrimp and isolate microbes from real seawater. They measure productivity, test light and nutrients, and track microplastics through a simple marine food chain.

Where it fits
How our labs fit this course
Ocean Literacy Principle 5
Where it fits: Principle 5 The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems.
What the kit does: Students grow marine algae and brine shrimp and isolate living microbes from seawater to see that diversity up close.
Ocean Literacy Principle 6
Where it fits: Principle 6 The ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected.
What the kit does: Students test how nutrient runoff and microplastics from human activity affect marine algae and the animals that eat them.
